Only Live Once

Designing for a rebellious baby's outfit brand in New York.

identity | web | socials | print

Only Live Once is a bold and vibrant baby clothing brand in Brooklyn, NY. From the start, the founders wanted to achieve a youthful, energetic and somewhat “rebellious” look for the brand. I worked on this brand from the ground up with direction from Sarah at Hello Writing.

We explored various ideas and prototypes for items like backpacks, patches, socks, denim fits, etc. Designing assets for socials, web, and print, while keeping manufacturers in the loop was quite the task.

Design:

Japhet Onojie

Art direction:

Sarah Fischbein

2024/25

The Challenge

Although a baby clothing brand, the identity needed to be loud and vibrant. Rebellious here means positioning the brand against the normative way of thinking about baby clothing: soft, cute, cozy.

Working with manufacturers in China and ensuring items from the prototype came out the way we envisioned was quite a challenge as well.

The Solution

We designed brand assets around objects that could evoke the reaction we wanted. The bolt, the leopard pattern, the vibrant and saturated colors, the sharp contrast, rich black, etc. All these helped to position the brand well in stores and capture the attention of customers who are interested in such a vibe.
